WYOPS receives multiple FOA certifications
Monday -- April 30 2007
WYOPS is pleased to announce that Cortney Thompson has recently obtained two FOA (Fiber Optic Association) certifications. This further expands WYOPS capability to bring a complete infrastructure solution to its clients. CFOT and CFOS/T certifications were obtained via on-site training and testing performed by Cortney last week. Now building owners can have options other than simple UTP (unshielded twisted pair). Fiber allows for infrastructure wiring to keep growing with technology while UTP limitations are in the not so distant future. Read more about the certifications below.
CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician)
This certification requires 75% hands on testing and familiarity with
industry standards covering FTTD (Fiber To The Desk), FTTH (Fiber To
The Home, LAN/WAN fiber networks, and further introduces the basic fusion
and mechanical splicing. Fluent knowledge of identifying fiber types,
recognize various connectors used in fiber installation; and install,
terminate, splice, and properly test installed fiber cable to existing
standards. This program explores the history and future of fiber optics
and fiber optics capabilities, and cost of installation. Standards covered:
NECA/FOA-301-2004, EIA/TIA 568-B.3, ANSI/TIA/EIA 607-A, and NEC Article
770-50.
CFOS/T (Certified Fiber Optic Specialist / Testing)
As a prerequisite the technician must already have the CFOT certification.
This comprehensive program explains the variety of testing standards,
equipment, and technological approaches used in fiber network testing
and splicing and how to choose among them. This 75% hands on course
explores the overall spectrum of testing and maintenance of single and
multi mode fiber optics networks and provides a detailed overview and
demonstration of various pieces of equipment used in testing and maintenance.
Subject matter includes a detailed study of ANSI/TIA/EIA-526-14(7)A,
OTDR fundamentals and uses, OTDR vs. Insertion Loss Testing, Return
Loss Testing, and Attenuation testing using the Power Source and Light
Meter.

CIC (Certified Independent Consultant)
LexisNexis® Practice Management has a program to certify trainers
and consultants who have proven setup, training, customization, and
support capabilities with Time Matters, Billing Matters, World Server,
PCLaw and HotDocs Software. These professionals are called Certified
Independent Consultants (CICs). CICs must attend certification classes
at a given training facility and pass both written and verbal exams.
This program is not a reseller or dealer program, but focuses on training
and support, not sales. CICs are not employees, agents, representatives,
resellers, or contractors for Practice Management. CICs are independent
professionals whose primary focus is the training and support of clients.
Many CICs represent products that are direct competitors to Practice
Management. It may seem unusual for us to list Consultants that could
potentially recommend competing products, however, we believe that the
best match of software to a customer is in our best interest as well
as yours.

Extension of Daylight Saving Time
Wednesday - March 07, 2007
Alerting all customers; the extension of Daylight Saving Time (DST) is almost upon us! DST will begin earlier and end later than in previous years. This year, DST will begin the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. WYOPS is currently working with the end customers in order to identify and assess the impact of this change on information systems and implement appropriate updates where needed. Below we have outlined the most frequently asked questions, and provided additional resources on the topic.
Why Are These Changes Happening?
* DST in the United States will begin earlier and end later in 2007 than in past years. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 states that beginning in 2007, DST will begin the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. Previously, DST began the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October.
What Does This Mean To Me?
* Many information technology systems (servers, workstations, handheld devices and other important systems) may be impacted by the DST change. Most DST-related issues can be resolved by downloading the appropriate operating system patch. If computer system impacts are not identified and addressed, time zone settings for the system clock may be incorrect, which could lead to a variety of problems such as automated logging errors, system monitoring difficulties, degraded system performance and/or disruption of services.
